Hello, I’m Dr. Michelle Ahmann, an Associate Veterinarian at Veterinary Village in Lomira, WI. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2011 and completed my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Purdue University in 2015. I started my career right here at Veterinary Village from 2015 to 2017 before spending two years at Countryside Veterinary Clinic in Lowville, NY. In 2019, I returned to Veterinary Village, where I continue to pursue my passion for veterinary care.
I am currently a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association, and the Society for Theriogenology.
Why I Chose This Profession
From a young age, I’ve always loved both science and animals. Veterinary medicine allows me to combine these two passions in a way that directly impacts the lives of animals and their families. Helping pets, especially through the complex stages of life like geriatric care and reproduction, has been an incredibly fulfilling journey.
Favorite Part of My Job
One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is bringing new life into the world. There’s something magical about helping an owner achieve their dream litter and assisting with the safe delivery of puppies through procedures like TCI and C-sections. It’s a privilege to work closely with breeders and pet owners to ensure the best outcomes for both the mother and her pups.
Personal Hobbies & Interests
In my personal life, I enjoy showing and breeding purebred dogs, as well as training and working with them. This passion for breeding extends into my veterinary work, where I have a special interest in canine reproduction. Outside of work, spending time with my dogs and working on their training is something I find incredibly rewarding.
Getting To Know You
If you weren’t working at a veterinary clinic, what would you do?
I would be an archeologist. I was torn between attending veterinary school or graduate school for archeology. It is still a passion and something I find very interesting.
What is the most exotic animal you have treated?
I got to assist with a canine tooth extraction of a lion when I was in veterinary school.
What animal scares you more than any other?
Cockroaches - creepy little buggers
What do you consider your greatest accomplishment?
Completing veterinary school
What do you do in your spare time?
I work with my dogs training for various events or grooming them. I also enjoy hiking or something outdoors (when nice) with my husband and our pets.
What is your favorite comfort food?
I love raspberries and anything with cream cheese
What is your biggest pet peeve?
An animal attempting to bite me and an owner telling me what a nice/friendly pet they are… they just tried to bite me…
What animals do you currently have?
Marlowe - 3-year-old Irish setter. He is my heart dog. He is a giant goofball and everyday is the best day of his life. We are currently training for and showing in multiple different venues of dog sports (conformation, dock diving, obedience, rally obedience, agility, barn hunt, nose work, and Fast CAT)
Eleanore - 4-year-old Bengal cat. She joined our family after she had an emergency spay due to a pyometra. She is a wonderful cat but she does not enjoy being pet by me however she will tolerate it. She is beautiful and she knows it.
Forester - is our new Golden Retriever puppy, more about him soon.
If you were to come back as an animal, what would it be and why?
I want to come back as my dog Marlowe. He has so much joy, it would be great to live that way every day. He is also spoiled rotten.
What is your favorite childhood movie and why?
Milo and Otis - The pug is wonderful. This is why I wanted a pug as a child.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
Christmas gatherings with all of our family and extended family at my grandparent's house in North Dakota
